Because He Loved Us First: The Wonder of God’s Love
Have you ever tried to wrap your mind around the idea of God’s love? It’s so BIG, overwhelming, and all-encompassing that words often feel too small to capture its depth. I find myself standing in awe, wondering: how could a God so perfect, so holy, choose to love us—imperfect and flawed? Yet, the answer lies in this beautiful truth: *We love because He first loved us* (1 John 4:19).
God’s love isn’t like human love. It’s not dependent on what we do or how we perform. It’s unconditional—He loves us as we are. It’s sacrificial—Jesus gave His life for us even while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). And it’s eternal—never-ending, never-failing, and always constant (Jeremiah 31:3).
A Love Beyond Words
Sometimes, I try to put God’s love into words, but it’s like trying to count the stars or measure the ocean with a cup—it’s impossible! His love reaches deeper than our shame, higher than our dreams, and farther than our failures.
I remember a moment in my own life when I felt overwhelmed by this love. It wasn’t during a perfect day or when I had it all together—it was during a season of struggle. I didn’t feel worthy, but in that moment, God reminded me: My love for you has nothing to do with your worthiness and everything to do with My nature.
How Do We Respond to Such Love?
God’s love isn’t just something to know—it’s something to experience. When we truly grasp the depth of His love, it changes us. It fills our hearts, transforms our minds, and overflows into our relationships with others.
So how do we respond?
1. Receive His Love: Pause and allow yourself to soak in the truth that He loves you just as you are.
2. Reflect on His Goodness: Take time to think about the ways He has shown His love—through His Word, His provision, and even the people He’s placed in your life.
3. Love Him Back: Let your love for God flow naturally from the realization of His love for you. Worship, pray, and obey—not out of duty but from a heart overwhelmed by love.
A Song for Your Heart
- As you reflect on God’s love, I recommend listening to “Wonderful Love” by Ccioma. It’s a beautiful reminder of how amazing and indescribable His love truly is. Let it minister to your heart and remind you that you are deeply loved by the One who created you.
A Prayer to Close
Father, thank You for loving us first. Your love is more than we could ever comprehend, yet You pour it out so freely. Help us to rest in Your love, respond to it, and share it with those around us. May we always remember that Your love is the foundation of everything we are. Amen.
God’s love is the greatest gift we could ever receive. Pause today and let it fill your heart—you’ll never be the same. 🌿
